Fire Damages At Least Two Buildings In Lowell
LOWELL (CBS) -- A three-alarm fire Saturday afternoon has damaged at least two buildings in Lowell, according to the Red Cross and witnesses.
No one was living in the first building to catch fire on East Merrimack Street, Red Cross spokeswoman Kat Powers said. But the fire spread to at least one other building, which had three apartments, she said.
Electricity to the neighborhood was cut while firefighters battled the blaze, Powers said.
One building severely damaged and a second was evacuated.
Firefighters were called to 151 East Merrimack St. shortly before 2 p.m. After the fire started, smoke could be seen coming from the building, then flames eventually burned through the roof. The adjacent building at 133 East Merrimack St. was been evacuated.
The address is part of a commercial-residential block near Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
