Fewer Problems For Foxboro Police At Country Fest This Year
FOXBORO (CBS) - Foxboro police say the crowds at the New England Country Music Festival were a little more mellow this year, and they credit tough police action for sending a message to concertgoers.
Last year, more than 600 people were arrested or taken into protective custody during the two-day event which has a reputation for heavy drinking and rowdiness. Friday night, 103 people were either arrested or taken into protective custody, a number Foxboro Police Chief Edward O'Leary says is encouraging.
Parking lots did not open until 2:00 p.m., which is three hours before the start of the event. The chief says it reduced the hours for tailgating.
The town is now facing a class action lawsuit from some concertgoers who says their civil rights were violated last year. The chief says police are not backing down on their concert patrols as a result of the legal action.
