Felger & Mazz: 'This Guy's A Bad Guy'
In the wake of reports that the Patriots are working on a controversial trade for embattled Washington Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, Felger & Massarotti spent the entire first segment of Thursday's show debating the merits of the potential move, and discussing their opinions of Haynesworth as both a player and a citizen. While the Patriots would only be giving up a fifth round pick in 2013 to get a player who could potentially be a huge addition to their football team, his somewhat unbelievable rap sheet has the guys questioning whether this is a move that is going to be beneficial, or is just flat out taking it too far.
On the one hand, the trade is a classic Bill Belichick play, and is hard to argue with purely from a football perspective. Belichick has been known to look for value in rather unconventional places, and controversial signings like Randy Moss and Corey Dillion have worked out for him in the past. However, that being said, when you look at Haynesworth's off the field track record, it's not hard to understand why Felger called the move "so shocking that you can barely put it into words."
As Mazz put it, "this guy's a bad guy," and with that in mind, many are wondering how this will ultimately pan out for the Patriots. With Haynesworth's salary becoming guaranteed if he makes the opening day roster, Mike and Tony can't help but wonder if he will play nice for a few weeks to make the team, and then turn back into the mope he's proven he can be once he gets his money. And even though he's already made a lot of that in the past, his mismanagement of numerous aspects of his life, including his finances, makes it hard to discern where his intentions truly lie.
One can only assume that Haynesworth will be on a short leash when he arrives in New England, but how short will that leash actually be? Will the Pats be able to straighten him out and turn him into the dominant player he has been in the past, or will New England just be another place for him to add to his unparalleled laundry-list of missteps and questionable behavior? For all this and more on the impending Hayenworth trade, tune in now, or call Mike and Tony to let them know what you think!
