Felger & Mazz: Patriots Defense Back To Square One
BOSTON (CBS) - Mike Felger and Tony Massarotti kicked off their show reacting to the Patriots 34-31 win over the Houston Texans on Sunday.
With the amount of key players they've lost for the season on defense, what was supposed to be a strength of this team is now their weakness...again.
That side of the ball has already lost starters Jerod Mayo, Tommy Kelly and Vince Wilfork for the year, and the players that are out there now aren't in their tip-top shape.
Zolak: Hightower Should Be Giving The Patriots More
Cornerback Aqib Talib is laboring through a chronic hip injury, fellow cornerback Alfonzo Dennard missed Sunday's game with a knee injury, safety Steve Gregory has a broken thumb and linebacker Brandon Spikes is playing on one good leg.
This Patriots team is still in the same spot as they have been for the past few seasons. That is, a superb passing offense with a shaky defense.
"I just feel like they can't necessarily stop anybody, and that was not a good offensive team [in Houston]," said Tony Massarotti. "And you go and give up 31 points?"
However despite this negative outlook, Felger believes that there's still enough here on this team to hoist a Lombardi Trophy come season's end.
"I just sort of feel like we are back to where we started from [with this defense], which is not the worst place to be. You could have won a title being right where you are now and it may happen again this year. That's the fact of the matter," said Mike Felger.

"To me, they are a one-dimensional football team at the moment. It's a passing attack and that's it. That's all they got," said Mazz.
"Which is again not awful," interjected Felger. "There have been teams that have been largely a passing attack that have won championships. I still contend that Green Bay team was it, I still contend that New Orleans team was it. There's been a lot of examples. I think it might be enough for this Patriots team."
