Felger & Mazz On The 'Rotten, Ridiculous' Miami Dolphins Locker Room Culture
BOSTON (CBS) - Attorney Ted Wells completed his investigation into the Miami Dolphins bullying scandal and his discoveries were made public on Friday.
Richie Incognito, the accused ringleader behind the toxic Dolphins locker room, fired off a series of tweets on Wednesday defending himself and provided hints that the conclusion of the investigation would prove his innocence.
Now that the facts of the case have come to light the only thing Incognito has "freed" himself of is a career in the NFL.
In the report, Wells states that Incognito, John Jerry and Mike Pouncey of the offensive line group "engaged in a pattern of harassment directed" at Martin, another young offensive lineman and an assistant trainer."
Also in the report: "We find that the assistant trainer repeatedly was targeted with racial slurs and other racially derogatory language. Player A frequently was subjected to homophobic name-calling and improper physical touching. Martin was taunted on a persistent basis with sexually explicit remarks about his sister and his mother and at times ridiculed with racial insults and other offensive comments."
Mike Felger and Tony Massarotti discussed the latest in the Dolphins bullying story to open their show Friday afternoon.
"I've heard people say that this is what goes on in NFL locker rooms and that this is just a different culture. I just refuse to believe that," said Felger. "There was something rotten going on there.
"What were they doing there? I guarantee you it is not like that in other locker rooms. I guarantee you it is not like that in the Patriots locker room - what a rotten, ridiculous culture there in Miami."
Tony Massarotti has felt the same way from day one, and this Wells report did not change his opinion: Richie Incognito is a bully and he preyed on the weaker Martin.
Aside from how he treated his teammate and supposed friend in Martin, the most damaging part of the revelations is the way in which he treated the Asian-American trainer, calling him racial slurs and making insensitive remarks on the anniversary of Pearl Harbor.
Felger points out how lucky New England fans are to have winning cultures to root for.
"In the Bruins locker room Zdeno Chara doesn't even allow you to call first-year players rookies, because he thinks it's demeaning and not in the nature of a team - do you think any bullying is going on with Patrice Bergeron and Zdeno Chara?" asked Felger.
"Do you think any of that is going on with the Patriots? What a bunch of crap down there. They deserve everything that they get."
