Felger & Mazz On: Deion Branch And Tom Brady Reunited
Deion Branch is officially back in New England as a member of the Patriots, and Felger couldn't be more excited. Felger & Massarotti opened today's program examining the Branch trade and the Patriots' other in-season moves they have made, what they mean for the Pats' future gameplan, and how much better they will or will not be with Branch instead of Randy Moss.
Felger:"Deion Branch is truly one of my favorite Patriots to come through here. I loved him as a player, I loved his skill set. What makes this Moss story so significant is that it speaks to so many big picture things about what you value as a sports fan and what you think, philosophically, wins games. What Randy Moss does- even though he could've and should've won a Super Bowl- doesn't necessarily win games. It excites you and puts up stats, but it's not as conducive to winning games as what Deion Branch does. To me, someone who gets open and catches the ball consistently in the possession game is more valuable than a home run hitter. And I do not believe as others do that you need that home run hitter to open up the area for the underneath guy! I think good underneath guys get open against all manner of coverage. Deion Branch did when he was here, and Wes Welker has and will continue to get open underneath where Tom Brady is at his most comfortable, and they won't need Randy Bleepin' Moss to create that opening."
Mazz: "Remember Nostradamus? You are now Nostra-Felger. I would love to see the reception when he walks into the locker room...You said you don't really need the home run threat- you don't need the one player- you got to have the element, but I think they have that. A lot of that is setting it up. You can set defenses up to throw deep. You need a receiver with speed, they have that. There's no reason that Brandon Tate can't be a guy who can run down the field and catch long passes. I said consistently that there was a chance this thing with Moss was going to blow up this year. If you were to poll people this year with a realistic guy to bring here, this was probably the best thing they were going to get. He's probably starting Sunday, right?"
