Felger & Mazz: Mike Pereira On Ed Hochuli's Performance In Pats-Niners
Mike Pereira of Fox Sports joined Felger and Massarotti to talk about some of the officiating during Week 15 in the NFL.
Pereira explains Ed Hochuli's performance during Sunday night's game between the New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers.
"That one had me so buffaloed," said Pereira. "I finally got it at the end just before he came out with his fourth announcement I think and said what he was going to do."
Hochuli's use of the term "illegal touch" had everyone confused.
"It is [an illegal touch to down a punt] but they call it a violation," Pereira explained. "So if it's a punt play, the kickers cannot be the first to touch the ball before it touches a member of the receiving team. If they do, it's just a simple violation. It's not a yardage penalty, but it allows the receiving team to take the ball at the spot of that touching violation.
"I don't know if it was too cold for a guy from Phoenix, which is where Ed's from, or whatever, but it looked to me the lips started to freeze and it was one of the worst situations I've seen all year. And as you know, we've seen a lot of messy ones, especially early in the season."
Were there any issues with the clock operators last night? Is there a history of opposing coaching complaining about the clock operators at Gillette?
