Felger & Mazz: March 4, 2013
Felger and Massarotti opened the week discussing the Boston Bruins 4-3 loss to the Montreal Canadiens. During last nights loss, Bruins forward Tyler Seguin took a cheap shot from Canadiens defenseman Alexei Emelin. Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara took exception to the hit and went after Emelin. Chara's retaliation resulted in a 2-minute Instigator penalty, a 5-minute major for Fighting, and a 10-minute Game Misconduct. Is Chara standing up for a teammate worth the risk of losing him for the game, maybe more? The NFL Franchise Tag deadline is today at 4pm. Who, if anyone, will the Pats place the tag on?
Hour 1
In Hour 2, Felger and Mazz continued to discuss last nights Boston Bruins loss to the Montreal Canadiens. In his post game press conference, Bruins coach Claude Julien called out the Canadiens for faking penalties and embellishing calls. What can the league do to end the flopping in the NHL? The guys went on to talk about the New England Patriots, Tom Brady, and his contract extension. Was it a smart move to lock Brady up until he is 40 years old?
Hour 2
The NFL Franchise Tag 4pm deadline has past and all seems quiet on the New England Patriots front. For the first time since 2008, the Pats didn't Franchise a player. Over the weekend, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco signed his new deal with the Ravens. Flacco signed a 6-year deal for $120.6 million. What kind of flexibility do the Ravens have after the Flacco deal? Also, you have to take Dwayne Bowe off of your Patriots Wish List. The Kansas City Chiefs reached an agreement on a 5-year deal with the top flight receiver. The guys went to talk about the Boston Red Sox and David Ortiz' recovery. Did Ortiz deserve the deal he got in the offseason? Could this deal come back to haunt the Sox? Friend of the show, Tony Marinaro from TSN Radio 690 in Canada, may want to fight Brad Marchand and Jack Edwards.
Hour 3
In the 4th and final hour of Felger and Massarotti, the guys recapped and took calls on all topics they covered today. How come Chara stuck up for a teammate last night, but not against the Buffalo Sabres a couple of weeks back? How can the league put an end to embellishing? Also, the Final Word with Marc Bertrand.
