Felger & Mazz: Lackluster Lackey And The State Of The Sox
With Massarotti out of the studio as we returned from the July 4th Holiday, Felger was joined by Marc "The Beatle" Bertrand for Tuesday's show. After Felger spent the first few minutes of the segment lamenting about the shortcomings of the 4th of July, he and Bertrand turned to baseball talk and the woeful play of John Lackey.
With Lackey currently sporting a 7.47 ERA and a 9.17 ERA at Fenway, Felger and Bertrand debated his viability as a starter, and questioned how he should be handled in the short-term with 3 years remaining on his $82.5 million contract. Will there ever be a point where Sox fans can trust him when he takes the mound every fifth day?
Felger and Bertrand also revisited the Sox recent Interleague road trip, and continued to express their frustration with the Red Sox recent off-the-field conduct. After the Sox scored more runs than any other team in the majors during Interleague play, Mike and Marc are having a hard time understanding why the Red Sox are creating distractions and making comments about being able to go back to playing "the way [they're] accustomed to." That said, halfway through the season, Felger and Bertrand still can't agree if the Sox have lived up to expectations.
