Felger & Mazz: Barkann On Eagles, Don't Think Anyone Thought They'd Pull Off What They Did
With Felger out of studio on a "Wiggy Wednesday", Massarotti, Bertrand and Wiggins welcomed CSN Philly's Michael Barkann to the program to discuss the new-look, star-studded Philadelphia Eagles, dubbed the "dream team" by many pundits around the country.
Mazz opened the discussion by asking Barkann whether the current Philly sentiment is Superbowl or bust. Barkann stated that the city is jacked up about the team and hopes it can continue the winning tradition in Philly. In fact, Barkann even said that fans in Philadelphia are itching for a Phillies-Red Sox World Series and Patriots-Eagles Super Bowl. Mazz jokingly reminded Barkann that the Flyers will be in attendance when the Bruins raise their championship banner.
Getting back to the topic at hand, specifically the acquisitions of players like Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Nnamdi Asomugha, Barkann spoke for himself and Eagles fans, putting it this way: "I don't think anyone thought they'd pull off what they pulled off." The only thing the Eagles are still waiting on, Barkann pointed out, is the Eagles down-field threat DeSean Jackon who is holding out for a contract extension. Barkann did want to note that the big question that still remains pertains to Head Coach Andy Reid and his poor clock management down the stretch of games and how he might make adjustments to that issue this season, especially with a dynamic quarterback like Michael Vick.
Jermaine Wiggins stepped in to ask what kind of effect DeSean Jackson has on the Eagles and his indispensability to the team. Barkann claimed that Jackson is obviously a huge factor for the Eagles prolific offense to thrive, however, Jackson's special teams contributions are what makes him so vital to the Eagles success, citing Jackson's unbelievable game-winning punt return TD as time expired against the NY Giants last season.
Is Asante Samuel expendable now? Are the Eagles satisfied with the lucrative contract they gave to him in 2008? Can Michael Vick live up to the lofty expectations thrust upon after his stellar 2010 season? Can Vick take the Eagles to the promised land?
For answers to these questions and more, tune in to Felger and Mazz to get the answers and be a part of the discussion!
