Felger & Mazz: August 5, 2013
Hour 1
Felger and Massarotti kicked off the week discussing the Boston Red Sox, Jake Peavy's first start as a member of the Sox, and the weekend series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Today 12 players have accepted 50-game suspensions for their involvement in the Biogenesis scandal. Nelson Cruz of the Texas Rangers and Jhonny Peralta of the Detroit Tigers are two of the twelve players suspended. How will the suspensions impact the playoff race? Alex Rodriguez is still waiting to hear from Major League Baseball and is in the Yankees lineup tonight. After Friday night's performance, should the Sox be worried about Jon Lester? Does Lester have the stuff to be the ace of the staff? Finally, Marc "The Beetle" Bertrand clears the air about a Tweet-Beef that took place while he was on vacation.
In Hour 2, Felger and Mazz discuss Major League Baseball's 2 Wild Card system in the playoffs. Does having a second wild card team make the playoff race more interesting? During the 3pm hour, Alex Rodriguez was officially suspended by Major League Baseball. A-Rod will be suspended for 211 games, including the entire 2014 season, beginning Thursday, but will appeal the suspension. In the weekend series against the D-Backs, did John Farrell mismanage the bullpen? What is Tony Mazz's problem with former Sox outfield and current D-Backs outfielder Cody Ross?
Hour 2
During Hour 3 of Felger and Massarotti, the guys changed gears from baseball to talk some New England Patriots and Tom Brady. Over the weekend, Brady turned 36-years old. Is Brady better at 36 than he was at 26? How much longer can Brady be an elite quarterback? With all the new faces in the receiving core, can the Pats running game help balance out the offense? Former Patriots and legendary head coach Bill Parcells was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame this weekend. How big was Parcells' impact on the game of football?
Hour 3
In the fourth and final hour, Felger and Mazz got back into the Red Sox. Has Mazz's outlook on the Sox changed at all? The Sox are about to embark on the 10-game road trip. Can the Sox stay hot with 16 of their next 19 games being on the road? Can the Patriots put the distractions behind them to be success this year? Finally, it's the Final Word with Marc Bertrand.
