Felger & Mazz: AFC East Continues To Be Musical Chairs With Stooges
BOSTON (CBS) - The Tom Brady-Bill Belichick Patriots have basically had zero competition in the division since they joined forces, and 98.5 The Sports Hub's Mike Felger and Tony Massarotti don't see that changing anytime soon.
Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin (somehow) survived another disappointing season, but elsewhere in the AFC East there were some big changes taking place Wednesday.
In Buffalo, former Jets coach Rex Ryan was introduced as their next head man, and in New York the Jets tapped Arizona defensive coordinator Todd Bowles to be their next man in charge.
Rex Ryan was let go in Florham Park after coaching a team with no quarterback and a good defense. He's now hundreds of miles northwest entering the same exact situation!
And Todd Bowles? Well, who really knows. This will be his first head coaching job. But he also has no quarterback, and the man hired to give him tutelage?
Chan Gailey -- or as Tony Massarotti would say, "Chan freaking Gailey!"
And lastly, in Miami -- a team with the most stability in the division, save for New England -- recently hired Mike Tannenbaum, former Jets general manager, to run their operation.
"[This division] is musical chairs with stooges, from one town to another," joked Tony Massaortti. "It is just recycling one buffoon and stooge after the next. It's really unbelievable."
Besides the Patriots, mediocrity will persist in the AFC East, Felger & Mazz predict.
