Matt Light On Felger & Mazz: I Knew Hernandez Was Different From Day One
BOSTON (CBS) - The always insightful and colorful Matt Light is down in Times Square this week, so he stopped by the 98.5 The Sports Hub table on Radio Row Thursday afternoon to chat with Michael Felger and Tony Massarotti.
Felger offered a rare compliment to Matt Light by saying he's one of the few athletes to retire with gas still left in the tank, which flattered the former Patriots left tackle.
Down on Radio Row for Super Bowl week, this time of year especially gives Light some pause as to whether or not he could still be out there and give one last run at another ring. Although more hardware would be nice, the necessary work involved is simply just not worth it to him.

"There's definitely the playoff vibe that kicks back in, and you say it would be kind of cool to get one more title; then you think back and you say to yourself 'That means twelve hour days for how many days in a row?' - No no, I'm not doing that again," Light joked.
"For me it was great to be able to walk away at that point in my life where I could say, 'Well I'm healthy, which doesn't happen at the end of a season, we had a hell of a year going to the Super Bowl, the Indianapolis experience and all that stuff, you know what? Enough is enough.'"
Matt Light has no problem telling you that he's not the biggest fan of the game; he has plenty of other hobbies that he enjoys like hunting, working with his foundation, and being a businessman. So while he's not rooting for a specific team on Sunday, he is pulling for a former teammate.
"I would love for [Wes] Welker to get a ring. It's not an easy place to play in New England. That bond that you form, the things that we did together and the group of guys that we had there's always going to be that connection. I've got no horse in the race; I would love to be able to tell you that they both lose, but somebody has got to win."
The conversation then shifted gears to how the Broncos were able to beat the Patriots in the conference championship game, Kurt Warner's comments yesterday about SpyGate and how long Tom Brady's window will be open.

Afterwards, the subject of Aaron Hernandez was discussed.
Matt made some comments about Hernandez over the summer (which he later denied) after news broke of the former tight end's involvement in the murder of Odin Lloyd. Light set the record straight on Felger & Massarotti.
"That situation? Nobody knows. You guys know me: I hang out with other fat sloppy people, I don't hang out with an Aaron Hernandez or anybody else for that matter that's outside my mold of an individual."
"He was a different duck, and I knew he was a different duck from day one. I typically avoided that kind of a character. The thing that I always tell people is it sheds this negative light, and it overshadows what really is the heart and soul of all of our wins and our legacy, and that is we have really good quality individuals. Unfortunately there's always one in the bunch."
