Mazz: 'I Hope UConn Gets Smoked By Kentucky'
BOSTON (CBS) - We knew Tony Massarotti is not a fan of the state of Connecticut, but apparently that extends to their college basketball programs as well -- especially their women's team.
During a Red Sox breather on Monday's Felger & Massarotti program on 98.5 The Sports Hub, the guys discussed tonight's college basketball national championship game between the University of Connecticut and the University of Kentucky.
Joe Sullivan On NCAA Tournament: 'We Can't Underestimate UConn Anymore'
Marc Bertrand opened the conversation stating how wonderful this tournament has been from start to finish, which led Mazz into a tangent about his hatred for UConn and all things Nutmeg State.
"Just because I'm in New England doesn't mean I have to root for Connecticut, which isn't part of New England anyway as we all know. Tonight and tomorrow night I hope Connecticut goes down like a pack of wild boars. I hope they lose both -- the men and the women," said Mazz. "I hope they get smoked by Kentucky in this game.
"I'm not a UConn person. It's partly the state, it's partly the school. I've got a predisposition against the state to begin with. They allege themselves to be New Englanders but they're really not. They're more like New Yorkers, and they're snobby to begin with. And the other thing is the basketball program down there. The elitism that seeped into that basketball program -- both with Jim Calhoun and GENO [Auriemma] -- like get over yourself."

"You've been great. You've had a ton of success. . . but you're still UConn -- relax," added Beetle.
"Geno Auriemma fancies himself as the John Wooden of women's basketball. The crap that comes out of his mouth ... Of the elite 20 women's basketball players in the country, UConn gets 12 of them and gets all excited about the fact that they kick the crap out of everybody. I can't take Geno seriously. Sorry. Can't do it," Mazz concluded.
