Stewart: Undertaker's Upset Loss At WrestleMania Like 2007 Patriots
BOSTON (CBS) - It's being called the greatest upset in modern sports history. No, not the '07 Patriots to the Giants in Super Bowl XLII -- we're talking about Undertaker at WrestleMania 30, of course.
Taking a break from their regularly scheduled programming, 98.5 The Sports Hub's Felger & Massarotti show enlisted the help of producer James Stewart Monday afternoon for a WrestleMania recap.
The Undertaker, known as one of the most clutch athletes in all of sports, was previously unbeaten in WrestleMania history with a 21-0 record, but that was before last night's match with Brock Lesnar, who pinned the 49-year-old Taker in front of a sell out crowd at New Orleans' Superdome.
J-Stew, one of the city's foremost experts in professional wrestling, called it "one of the top five WrestleMania's of all time" based on "the booking, the results, the shock factor and a 'turning of the page' from past era to a new era.
"The match quality from start to finish was superb, except for the Undertaker/Brock Lesnar match, but the poor quality of that match was overshadowed by the result and the fact that the Undertaker lost at WrestleMania," said Stewart.
"Do you think it was fixed?" joked Mike Felger.
"The Undertaker was undertaken," added a sarcastic Tony Massarotti.
"The whole audience was in shock. They didn't expect the Undertaker to lose. To a lot of people, this was the Patriots losing their undefeated season."
Well there you have it.
Patriots fans won't agree, but for wrestling fans we may never see another sports upset quite like last night's.
