Feds Continue Crackdown On New England Mob

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Four alleged members and associates of the New England mafia have pleaded not guilty in Rhode Island to their role in separate extortion schemes and have been ordered held.

A federal judge in Providence on Friday issued detainment orders for 64-year old Edward "Eddy" Lato, 70-year-old Alfred "Chippy" Scivola, 47-year-old Raymond "Scarface" Jenkins and 53-year-old Albino "Albi" Folcarelli at separate hearings.
Federal agents say they were arrested as part of an effort to dismantle the mafia in New England.

Prosecutors say Lato sought to continue to extort several Providence-area strip clubs after former mob boss Luigi "Baby Shacks" Manocchio was arrested in January. The 83-year-old Manocchio has pleaded not guilty to charges.

Lato, Jenkins and Folcarelli are also accused extorting an unidentified person who owed a $25,000 debt
