Father And Son Killed In Quincy Motorcycle Accident
QUINCY (CBS) - Quincy Police say what appears to have been a fun father-son bike ride ended in tragedy.
On Saturday evening, motorcycle parts were strewn all over Ricciuti Drive in Quincy. A large dump truck had significant damage on the passenger side after a motorcycle driven by 40-year-old Thomas Coffey and his eight year old son crashed into it claiming both of their lives.
"The arriving officers were faced with a very difficult situation obviously when they encountered the young child and male," Lt. Richard McCusker said.
Police say Coffey was riding his motorcycle with his eight year old son on Ricciuti Drive when they collided with a dump truck driven by Andre Brown. Brown was not injured in the accident.
Both the father and son were wearing helmets. Police say the boy was pronounced dead at Boston Medical Center and his father was pronounced at Quincy Medical Center.
No charges have been filed against the driver. "There are a number of factors of who can ride a motorcycle and when they can have passengers and when they can't. That's under investigation," Lt. McCusker said.
