Fatal Sinai Plane Crash Shocks Local Russian Community

NEWTON (CBS) -- News of the Russian airliner crash quickly spread at a Russian and Eastern European food mart in Newton.

"It's terrible. It's a shock," says a man.

Officials say all people aboard the plane were killed just 23 minutes into the flight.

"I heard the rescue teams were hearing from voices of victims coming from wreckage," said a man.

"224 people? Oh my God. Every day we travel. If it's not me, it's my children or neighbor. It's so very sad," said a woman.

As investigators search for a cause, bodies of the victims of the Russian Airbus were being taken to a morgue in Cairo. Folks are keeping a close watch on the passenger list.

"The community pulls together, definitely," said a woman. "Unfortunately, this happened abroad so (I feel sad for) whoever has family there. I am blessed that all my family is here, but we are going to go home and try to figure out if someone we know is on it."

"It's very devastating," said one person. "It's people with families. (It's a) horrible situation."

"Usually the families get together in Boston area in both Russian and Ukranian churches," said a man. "Condolences to all the people and their families."
