Fantasy Football Talk With Scott Gramling: Who's Number One?
BOSTON (CBS) - Scott Gramling of Fantasy Football Draft Guide joined the Gresh and Zolak Show on 98.5 The Sports Hub Wednesday afternoon to provide some expert advice for this upcoming NFL football season.
Here are some questions the guys asked Gramling:
Where do you have Andrew Luck ranked amongst your quarterbacks?
Gramling: "I am not as high on Luck as most other publications. I have him seventh amongst quarterbacks, however I've seen him as high as 4. I don't think I have seen him outside the top 10 unless I'm mistaken. I've got Manning, Brees, Rodgers, Matthew Stafford, Colin Kaepernick and Matt Ryan ahead of him."
Where do you have Tom Brady in your rankings?
Gramling: "I have Brady right behind Luck at no. 8. I think that is probably slightly higher than average and I think it's right around where he's being ranked. I have seen him behind Nick Foles, behind Russel Willson, and I've seen him behind RGIII. The guy is a lock for about 4,500 yards and close to 30 touchdowns."
What do you do in the instance of Ray Rice, who might get suspended, and Jamaal Charles who is holding out?
Gramling: "I'm not too worried about Jamaal Charles. These things always seem to work themselves out, don't they? I like my guy sort of resting through the preseason and then coming to play Week 1. You look at a guy like Ray Rice, he was already declining. I mean, he's got some hard yards on a relatively slight frame. I know he's a stocky guy, but he's taken some hits. The fact too that you have Bernard Pierce there, in Baltimore, you could see more of a timeshare. I was already down on Rice."
What do you make of Toby Gerhart getting the chance to be Jacksonville's no. 1 back?
Gramling: "I think he's a borderline no. 2 guy. I think ideally you want him as a 3. The Jaguars were bad for a for a lot of years and Maurice Jones-Drew was still putting up fantasy numbers. And that's the way it is. You don't have teams that are averaging 8, 9 points. Even the worst offenses are putting up points. I think the Jaguars will be able to move the ball and I wouldn't be surprised if Gerhart puts up 8 or 9 touchdowns."
Gramling was also kind enough to stick around for another segment where he fielded some questions from the listeners:
I just wanted to know who's a good, reliable wide receiver that also does special teams like kick returns and punt returns?
Gramling: "Cordarrelle Patterson might be that guy this year for the Vikings. Sounds like they are going to keep him on special teams and he's a guy that has a lot of upside in the passing game. I'm not sure what Detroit is going to do with Golden Tate. Keep an eye on him during the preseason."
I'm in a 12-man PPR league. I have the no. 1 pick. Who do I take at no. 1, or do you like trading back?
Gramling: "I like trading back. I think if you can get pick 11 and 14 I would go with a couple second year running backs right there. You might be able to get a guy like Le'Veon Bell at the 11 and then you can come back with Montee Ball at 14. If not, you can get one of those top 6 receivers: Calvin Johnson, DeMaryius Thomas, A.J. Green, Dez Bryant, Julio Jones or Brandon Marshall. You'll get one of those guys coming back at 14th overall. So I would trade back with that pick. I like the 11th pick in a 12 person draft. Right now I would still take Jamaal Charles with that no. 1 pick if you decide to keep it."
