Fantasy Football Show: Breaking Down NFL Rookies
Ourlads.com's Dan Shonka joined Mike Lockhart and Jim Murray on the 98.5 The Sports Hub's Fantasy Football show to talk about the league's best rookies as the 2012 season gets ready to kickoff.
First up, there is a plethora of rookie quarterbacks that will be tossed right into the fire. While their NFL teams have high hopes for them, what can fantasy owners expect out of Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III?
"I like both of the guys," said Shonka. "Obviously RG III has a little bit more of an experienced crew around him, but Andrew Luck was spectacular in the preseason... You wouldn't pick them as a starter, but you could certainly have them come in for your bye week or have them available if your starter goes down."
But those are just two of the rookie QBs that will get their shot right away. Another to potentially draft as a backup, or QB-of-the-future in keeper leagues, is Seattle's Russell Wilson.
"A guy that we've kind of championed after the top two this year was Russell Wilson, and he's made us look pretty good during the preseason," Shonka said of the Seattle quarterback. "You talk about the guy that has that 'it' like a Tom Brady, and Russell Wilson has 'it.' He also doesn't have the extra 2-3 inches you'd like on your quarterback, but he knows how to throw through passing lanes. You look at him and he's always so focused and methodical. I would say he's the next guy on the block that I would love to have on my team."
The guys also break down a few rookie running backs, and a sleeper receiver that could get you points in the passing and returning game.
