Family Thankful For Little Boy's Recovery
BOSTON (CBS) -- Three-year-old Wesley DeJesus is a curious young boy who has a lot to be thankful for this holiday season.
For the past two months, Wesley has been recovering at Franciscan Hospital for Children after being diagnosed with a rare disorder called Guillain –Barre. "It is a post-infectious auto immune disorder where the body is trying to fight infection but turns against itself," Dr. David Leslie said.
Wesley's mother says her son used to be full of life. "He liked to run around to play he was a happy kid. Then when all this happened it all changed he didn't want to play with anybody," Yaquira DeJesus said.

Out of nowhere Wesley was very lethargic and within a three-day period he became paralyzed from the neck down. "They realized he couldn't move and began to have trouble breathing, went into complete respiratory failure ended up on a ventilator," Dr. Leslie said.
Doctors at Franciscan's have been working hard to get Wesley back on his feet. "I was scared... seeing him like that. I thought he wouldn't make it," Mrs. DeJesus said.
Wesley has been in the hospital for the past 10 weeks and has undergone extensive occupational speech and language therapy.
Today he gets to go home, just in time for thanksgiving. "I'm surprised. I never thought it was going happened I thought he was gong to stay here for awhile. I'm thankful to have my baby back," Mrs. DeJesus said.
