Family Rescued From Burning Apartment Building In Lynn
LYNN (CBS) -- Firefighters using a ladder truck rescued a family of three who were trapped in a burning apartment building early Sunday morning.
About two dozen people are temporarily homeless after a fire heavily damaged the three-story building. The blaze apparently started on the first floor just before 2 a.m. Sunday morning and trapped a mother and her two children on the top floor, District Fire Chief Jack Barry said.
"One of the firefighters went into the apartment itself and actually handed them out to the other firefighters on the ladder," Barry said of the 47-year-old mom, her 9-year-old daughter and 19-year-old son.
All three members of the family were taken to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.
A relative of one of the fire victims said the first and second floors of the 11 Breed Square building sustained heavy damage. "I saw the first floor, I think that's where (the fire) happened," Anthony Sure said, "it was destroyed."
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
