Family Of Nancy Lanza Releases Statement On Shooting
KINGSTON, NH (CBS) - As investigators start to put the pieces together regarding the events of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary, the family of Adam Lanza is addressing their own wounds.
Nancy Lanza, Adam's mother and a victim of the shooting on Friday, grew up in Kingston, New Hampshire before moving to Connecticut.
Her brother, Jim Champion, still lives there with his family, and is a well-known police officer in the area.
The family was too distraught to speak publicly, but released a statement through the Sheriff of Rockingham County.
"The family of Nancy Lanza share the grief of a community and a nation as we struggle to comprehend the tremendous loss that we all share. Our hearts and prayers are with those who share in this loss," the statement read. "On behalf of Nancy's mother and siblings we reach out to the community of Newtown and express our heartfelt sorrow for the incomprehensible and profound loss of innocence that has affected so many."
