Family Of Army Vet Killed In Boston Asks Witnesses To Come Forward
BOSTON (CBS) - The family of an Army veteran gunned down in a Theater District parking garage is hoping new information about the moments leading up to the shooting will get more witnesses to come forward.
"My cousin was not a trouble maker," says Mark Bruno. "This wasn't a drunken bar brawl." His cousin, Stephen Perez, was killed in a Tremont Street parking garage before 2:00am April 28th, just as nearby bars were emptying out.
The 22-year-old had survived two tours in the Middle East, but not this. "Two young men in a car, one jumps out to attack my cousin after they exchange words. My cousin was obviously getting the best of the kid. The other kid got out of the car, came up from behind him, and shot him in the back."
He hopes the information will jog someone's memory.
Police released surveillance video from the garage looking for help identifying four men seen running out. They believe they're from Lynn, and that they were at a birthday party at a club called Underbar.
"I understand running away from the gunfire, but now that it is all over and all is said and done and they understand who the young man is that lost his life, I would hope they would come forward," says Bruno. "It would bring my family some closure, but little consolation losing a man like this."
Bruno says anyone who saw a fight at any Theater District bar that night, or anyone who has pictures in that area around that time should call police.
