Family Of Alleged Bulger Victim Asks Judge To Keep Civil Case Alive
BOSTON (AP) — The family of a man allegedly killed by Massachusetts gangster James "Whitey" Bulger has asked a judge to keep its lawsuit against former FBI officials alive.
A lawyer for Michael Donahue's family argued Wednesday that legal claims against four FBI agents should be allowed to continue even though an appeals court overturned a $6.3 million judgment against the federal government in the same case.
Authorities say Bulger, who was also an FBI informant, killed Edward "Brian" Halloran after former FBI Agent John Connolly Jr. warned them that Halloran was cooperating with the FBI against them. Donahue was killed when Bulger and another man allegedly opened fire on Halloran.
A lawyer for one of the agents argued that the family "can't get another bite of the apple" by pressing individual claims.
Judge William Young did not immediately rule.
