Family Members Want Answers In Apparent Lowell Homicide

LOWELL (CBS) -- Family members are looking for answers as flowers are laid outside a Lowell apartment complex where 44-year-old Gloribel Orengo was apparently beaten, killed and possibly stabbed late Saturday night.

"She ended up getting jumped outside and died, jumped right in front of my brother," said the victim's son Luis Barreto.

Baretto's brother, who has Down Syndrome, was with their mother at the time. Family members say Orengo was asked to leave a party at a friend's apartment only to be met outside by a violent group. Orengo's son allegedly witnessed his mother get beaten to death.

Baretto's fiance April Sawtelle  has this message for them:

"You guys traumatized this kid," Sawtelle said. "For you not to have an ounce of remorse is kind of pathetic."

Police are looking for those responsible while an exact cause of death is still being investigated. Family members have gathered at the scene wanting justice.

"You just threw her out to them," Baretto said. "I want all of them to get charged. Everybody. All of them."

Residents say the complex where the assault allegedly happened is prone to trouble. This altercation is called senseless.

"You're afraid to go out at night, not go anywhere, not go to a neighbor's house," one neighbor, who did not want to be identified, said. "You don't know what's going on."
