Family Recalls Carver Mother, Daughter As 'Loving, Generous, Kind-Hearted'
CARVER (CBS) -- Family members are mourning the deaths of a Carver woman and her daughter who were killed in a head-on crash with an off-duty state trooper on Sept. 22.
On Sunday, 42-year-old Mike Macchi and his brother Matthew told WBZ-TV they will never forget the love and kindness of their mother, Susan, and younger sister, Juliet. "That's how I remember both of them: loving, generous, kind-hearted," Mike Macchi said.
Police have said Susan Macchi, 64, and Juliet Macchi, 23, were both killed in the car crash with John Basler, a Massachusetts State Police trooper who was off-duty and allegedly drunk behind the wheel.
"I am not angry; I don't have time for that," Mike Macchi said. "We have to keep living our lives positively ... not spiteful or vengeful."
The fatal crash happened on Federal Furnace Road in Plymouth. Family members say Susan and Juliet Macchi were on their way home after attending a Red Sox game in Boston.
Police say Basler has only been a state police trooper for a year.
"I know everyone makes mistakes in life and I just hope God blesses him and his family," Matthew Macchi said of Basler.
Family members said Juliet Macchi had recently graduated from Harvard University and was about to move to California to begin a career in the film industry.
