Family Injured In Quincy Restaurant Crash Returns Home To San Diego
BOSTON (CBS) - It happened in an instant. Almost a month ago a car crashed through Wild Willy's, a busy Quincy restaurant, injuring the Gailey family.
Rob Gailey will be in a wheelchair for another three weeks and his wife, Wanda, has nerve damage in her leg. But at least they're finally heading home to San Diego.
When asked how her vacation was, Wanda responded, "a little different than we anticipated it would be."
"I had no idea where my wife was because she had been knocked down," Rob said. "I had no idea where my parents, who you know are in their 70s, 80s, were. They were right there [by the accident] and my son."
"I saw my daughter, I didn't know where my wife was although she popped up eventually and we caught eyes but I kept asking people where's my son, where are my parents are they OK, because I thought if they had been hit and knocked, they'd probably as injured as I was if not worse."
Rob's elderly parents were inches from being hit too. They were ordering food just hours after landing at Logan Airport. They came to visit family but instead, they all visited the hospital.
"It was very surreal. I was knocked to the floor and I kind of got up and looked and I saw both of them [the children] pinned in front of the car and I thought 'oh my word is this real?'"
When Rob and Wanda's children were asked how their vacation was they responded, "It was different than I thought it would be."
