Families Say They Were Scammed By Framingham Dog Breeder
FRAMINGHAM (CBS) - A total of 19 purebred dogs, some of them puppies, were taken by Framingham Animal Control after they were found living in deplorable conditions inside a room at the Red Roof Inn in Framingham.
Now some pet lovers hoping to purchase some of those Maltese dogs say they have been scammed by breeder Kim LeMarie of Lap Top Maltese. Another five other dogs were also taken from a home in Marlborough also owned by LeMarie. "There were piles of debris and newspaper covered in feces. She doesn't have a breeder license and none of the dogs are kept in clean situations at all," Code Enforcement Officer Pamela Wilderman said.
Several dog lovers hoping to purchase dogs from LeMarie feel they've been wronged. "It's tragic for the puppies and sad for the families who were planning to adopt a healthy dog," Kimberly Mazzone of Needham said. Mazzone along with several other potential buyers say they gave LeMarie down payments and filled out contracts but many have not seen their dogs. "I was supposed to have our puppy at the end of June but still no puppy," Mazzone said.
LeMarie has been hospitalized due to an illness and says she has not been fit to care for her dogs. "I just adore the dogs and my clients. I never meant for this to happen," LeMarie said.
The dogs have been quarantined by the Department of Agriculture.
