Falmouth Residents May Move To Keep Beloved Nobska Point Lighthouse
BOSTON (CBS) -- The Coast Guard is considering declaring Nobska Point Lighthouse in Woods Hole "excess property" after an inspection revealed it needs more than $500,000 in repairs.
But some locals are hoping they can keep the lighthouse public by acquiring it if the government puts it up for sale.

"It's a beautiful place. It's a beautiful setting," Catherine Bumpus of the Woods Hole Community Association told WBZ Newsradio 1030's Doug Cope.
According to Bumpus, you can see five other lighthouses from Nobska Point's hilltop location.
Bumpus said the lighthouse has even been the scene of wedding ceremonies.
"It's dear to many people's hearts," she said. "So letting it go out of public ownership seems wrong."
Among the repairs needed is a new roof for the lighthouse keeper's building.
Bumpus feels there's enough local interest that people would contribute money to keep the light maintained if the Coast Guard decides to let it go.
