Fallen Navy Seal's Family Hopes For Truth In Libya Investigation
BOSTON (CBS) - The sister of Winchester native Glen Doherty says she hopes lawmakers get to the bottom of the circumstances around her brother's death in Libya last month.
"We're happy that the details have come out that Glen saved a lot of people that night," says Kate Quigley.
The Republican-led House Oversight and Government Reform Committee is holding hearings looking into security around the U.S. consulate in Libya at the time of the attacks. The U.S. Ambassador to Libya and three other Americans, including Doherty, were killed.
Doherty, a former Navy Seal, was there as a civilian contractor on security detail at the time. Lawmakers spent Wednesday grilling State Department officials about inadequate security around diplomats in the Middle East.
The hearings come in the wake of the State Department's position that the attack was not the result of a protest against an anti-Muslim film, as was initially stated.
"We've known as a family all along this wasn't about a movie. Glen was just simply way too good for that," says Quigley. "The fact is, there was another terror attack on September 11th, and that's concerning, and I wish to God it didn't happen, and I hope it doesn't happen again."
Doherty's family has started a foundation in his name http://www.glendohertyfoundation.org/ to help others achieve their dreams the way he did.
