Fallen N.H. Soldier Honored In Delaware

SALEM, N.H. – Fallen soldier Michael Cook, a Salem, New Hampshire native, was honored at a ceremony in Delaware on Wednesday.

Cook was one of five U.S. soldiers killed during an attack on his base in Iraq on Monday, the day of his 27th birthday. He had lived in Kansas with his wife and two children. His parents, meanwhile, still live in Salem.

Patti cook said her son Michael was proud to serve his country. The army PFC was deployed last November and was scheduled to return later this year.

"The last time I saw him, he was leaving on the bus, but I talked to him over the phone a few times. He had the time to call, and I talked to him one day last week, and he was very excited because all the guys he was with, they were planning a New York trip," said Patti.

Cook was the third member of the Salem High School class of 2003 who was killed on duty.
