Fall River Soda Maker Winds Down Operations
BOSTON (CBS) - The owner of a family-owned Fall River soda producer says it's time.
Frosty Beverage owner Eddie Abdow says he's closing his family business, founded by his grandfather almost sixty years ago, to focus on his career as a science teacher.

Abdow tells WBZ he's been essentially doing two full time jobs since he got his Master's degree. He says the business is still there. Abdow says this is a retirement, he's not being forced to close.
Abdow also claims he's never thought about selling Frosty Beverage to anyone else. He says, "If you cut me, the soda runs through my veins. I have so much emotionally invested in the business. It would kill me if I ever say my (company logo) on another bottle."
Abdow's grandfather, Azar Abdow, started Frosty Beverage in the mid-1950's. He owned a convenience store that had a soda fountain. They used to make root beer floats and other drinks. Eddie Abdow says his grandfather would make his own syrups, and that parlayed into the soda business.
Abdow says the company had a great operation going back then. "During the '50s, '60s, and '70s, they had a real booming business. They had several trucks on the road. The big thing was home deliveries."
Abdow says he plans to sell off the bottling machinery, fix up the building, and lease or rent it out.
He says he's already had inquiries.
