Facebook To Open Boston-Area Office
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) — Facebook has announced that it plans to open a Boston-area office, almost a year and a half after a top Massachusetts politician asked the social media giant to relocate to the state where the seeds of company were sown.
Facebook announced Thursday it plans to build an engineering team in Cambridge.
The team will focus on infrastructure projects in areas including storage, networking, security, and language runtimes.
The office is just a couple of miles from Harvard University, where the website was founded in Mark Zuckerberg's dorm room. Facebook is headquartered in Menlo Park, Calif.
Massachusetts House Speaker Robert DeLeo welcomed the news.
The Winthrop Democrat in May 2012 wrote an open letter to Zuckerberg, asking him to return to Massachusetts, citing the state's tech-friendly business environment and financial health.
