Pilot Killed In Small Plane Crash On Cuttyhunk Island
BOSTON (CBS) - A pilot was killed when his small plane crashed on Cuttyhunk Island Wednesday morning.
Dukes County Sheriff Michael McCormack told WBZ-TV the pilot was alone on the plane when something went wrong during takeoff.
It hit some trees and went down nose first into the woods around 10 a.m.
The pilot has been identified as Allen P. Spaulding Jr., a 70-year-old Wilmington, Delaware resident.
The plane is a 1965 fixed-wing Maule Bee Dee M-4-210.
The Federal Aviation Administration said it's not known yet where the pilot was heading.
Cuttyhunk Island is the outermost of the Elizabeth Islands in Massachusetts.
It is south of New Bedford and Dartmouth and northwest of Martha's Vineyard.
