Expelled Student Arrested In Assumption Bomb Threat
WORCESTER (CBS) -- A student who was expelled from Assumption College earlier this year has been arrested in a bomb threat that forced the evacuation of the school this week.
The campus was evacuated on Tuesday night after someone reported pressure cooker bombs around campus, forcing investigators to spend the evening searching room-by-room.
Officials said Friday that former freshman Mohammed "Aubu" Braimah was expelled in the spring over assault and battery and receiving stolen property charges.
The 21-year-old Boston man is charged with making a bomb threat, making a bomb threat that causes serious public alarm and intimidation of a witness.
Prosecutors said Braimah used the phone number of an Assumption student to create a phony Yahoo email account, which was then used to send the message about the supposed bombs.
"Thanks to the information discovered through [the police] investigation, a suspect is now in custody," Assumption College President Francesco Cesareo said in a statement. "The College has full confidence in the expertise of the Worcester District Attorney's Office to fairly and fully prosecute this individual."
A lawyer for Braimah said he has been having serious issues with depression and anxiety.
Classes were canceled on Wednesday at Assumption, and students returned to class on Thursday after no credible threat was found.
