Woman Found Dead After Fire At New Hampshire Mobile Home
EXETER, N.H. (CBS) – An investigation is underway in New Hampshire after firefighters knocked down flames at a mobile home and found a woman dead inside.
The fire happened early Tuesday morning at Haynes Mobile Home Park in Exeter.
New Hampshire Assistant Attorney General John Kennedy says, "crews arrived and there was a mobile home engulfed in flames."
Luckily, the fire did not make its way to the two propane tanks outside of the house, or the whole neighborhood would have been in jeopardy. "It scared the hell outta me, my shed is about 24 inches from the tank," said next door neighbor Andy Colon.
Colon says the woman who was killed lived there alone and had just moved in on Saturday. "To me it's suspicious," says Colon.
"Right now it's just a death investigation. I think as we gather more information we'll be able to classify it a little better," said Kennedy.
Neighbors, however, are on edge. Andy Colon says someone moved his garden hose cart, placing it up against the victim's house. It may not be related, but he doesn't know how or why it got there.
Kennedy says, "we have no information right now that suggests that the larger community is at risk. Obviously we're continuing to investigate and it's early in the process, so, as we do in every case, we suggest everybody remain vigilant."
Investigators have not yet released the name of the victim, neighbors say she appeared to be in her 60's. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
The New Hampshire State Police Major Crime Unit, Exeter Police and the fire marshal's office are investigating the woman's death.
