Ex-State Sen. Richard Tisei To Run For Congress
BOSTON (AP) — Former Republican state senator Richard Tisei is planning to run for Congress in one of nine newly proposed districts.
Tisei said Tuesday that he'll formally announce his candidacy next week.
Tisei lives in Wakefield, part of a proposed redrawn district currently represented by Democratic U.S. Rep. John Tierney of Salem.
The proposed map, which reduces the number of districts from 10 to nine, was unveiled Monday. It must be approved by lawmakers and signed by Gov. Deval Patrick before taking effect.
Tisei, a real estate agent who most recently ran for lieutenant governor with GOP gubernatorial candidate Charles Baker, said voters care less about party than Washington gridlock.
It's been a difficult year for Tierney, whose wife served a 30-day prison sentence for helping file false tax returns for her fugitive brother.
