Essex County Gets Rainstorm Disaster Loans
BOSTON (AP) -- The area's congressional representatives say small businesses affected by flash flooding on Boston's North Shore two weeks ago will be able to apply for low interest loans to help restore their losses.
Sens. John Kerry and Scott Brown and Rep. John Tierney announced Friday that the Small Business Administration has granted their request for a disaster declaration to cover uninsured losses and lost business from the flooding.
Storms in the early morning of Oct. 4 dropped up between 4 and 6 inches of rain within a few hours, near the time of high tide.
Flooding was reported in Essex County towns including Swampscott, which got nearly 6 inches, and Peabody, which had over 4. Salem and Beverly also had scattered flooding from more than 4 inches of rain.
