Esplanade And South Boston Rapist Sentenced 18-22 Years In Prison

BOSTON (CBS) – A man already in prison for rape has been sentenced to 18-22 years in state prison for rapes on the Esplanade and in South Boston.

Alejandro Done, 49, pleaded guilty last month to indictments that charged him with rape, assault, kidnapping and armed robbery in attacks on three women in 2006, 2007, and 2010.

"The first thought I remember having when he was strangling me was 'oh my God, this is how I'm going to die,'" a survivor said Wednesday.

It was an emotional hearing in Suffolk Superior Court as survivors of Done bravely faced their attacker and pleaded with a judge to give him a maximum sentence.

"I spent 10 years looking for the outline of a man outside my window, in the middle of the night, worried he found out my name from the things he stole from me, and was coming for revenge," one survivor said.

It took years of police work to link the 49-year-old to the attacks.

"At that time it was unknown and it would be unknown for the next eight years who the attacker was," said Assistant District Attorney Amy Martin.

Prosecutors say for years all they had were his sketches and DNA evidence from his victims, that is until he was arrested in December of 2014 for kidnapping and raping a passenger while he was driving for Uber in Cambridge. Done is currently serving 10 to 12 years for the rape of the female passenger.

Police then ran his DNA and found their match. Done's DNA matched the DNA from rape cases on Boston's Esplanade and South Boston in 2006, 2007 and 2010. Last month, he admitted to the crimes.

Prosecutors recommended a term of 25 to 30 years followed by 10 years for probation to begin once his sentence out of Middlesex County expires. Judge Janet Sanders imposed a term of 18 to 22 years, followed by five years of probation, concurrent with the sentence from Middlesex County.
