Esiason: Witch Hunt From Fans & Other 31 Teams To Embarrass Patriots, Tarnish Legacy
BOSTON (CBS) - CBS Sports football analyst and WFAN radio host Boomer Esiason joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich show Tuesday morning for his weekly interview, only this time down in Phoenix on Radio Row!
Super Bowl Week: Sports Hub Schedule
Boomer and Fred finally met for the first time, which was interesting to say the least. After getting some pleasantries out of the way, they started it off with the biggest national sports story -- that dreaded "D" word.
DeflateGate has taken another left turn, this time towards the bathroom.
FOX Sports' Jay Glazer reported on Monday that the NFL is zeroing in on a locker room attendant in their investigation, after video caught this person taking balls from the officials locker room to another area on his way to the field.
Howe: Patriots Using DeflateGate As Rallying Cry
Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio confirmed the Glazer report, but added the attendant simply went into the bathroom for 90 seconds.
Team owner Robert Kraft stood behind his coach and quarterback Monday night, and Bill Belichick spent not one, but two press conferences denying any wrongdoing.
"Bill Belichick and Bob Kraft are all in. The chips are in the middle of the table and they basically went on to defend their integrity, who they are as a team, their legacy and all that other stuff," Esiason said on Tuesday.
"I'm just telling you right now, the way I see it, is there are 31 other sets of fans and other teams that really hope the Patriots get nailed here. I feel like there's a witch hunt out to ruin Bill Belichick's legacy and embarrass Bob Kraft. It's amazing what is happening here."
Heath Evans On DeflateGate: Won't Be A Distraction For Patriots
Esiason tells T&R he believes the NFL is "pissed" at the Patriots for the way they've handled themselves discussing the matter in recent press conferences, defiantly and vehemently denying any and all wrongdoing, but he wouldn't expect them to handle it any differently the way they've been dragged through the mud.
"I know [the NFL] is angry about [Patriots] press conferences. They are upset ... but again, put yourself in Bill Belichick and Bob Kraft's shoes. You want to fight it. Your natural reaction is to attack your attackers."
