Esiason: Steelers Might Be Only AFC Team That Has A Chance To Beat Patriots In Foxboro
BOSTON (CBS) -- The New England Patriots took care of business on Sunday afternoon, methodically beating the Denver Broncos 16-3 in the Mile High City.
The win improved the Patriots' record to 12-2 on the season while clinching an eighth straight AFC East crown and a seventh straight first-round playoff bye.
Given the way the Patriots look on both sides of the football, Boomer Esiason of WFAN and CBS' "The NFL Today" said they look like a virtual lock to reach the Super Bowl.
"I know they played Trevor Siemian. They're not great on offense in Denver right now, and sometimes you get a little bit of an inflated perspective of things that way. But right now, I don't know any team that currently sits in the playoffs that can go in and beat the New England Patriots," Esiason said. "Maybe, just maybe, the Pittsburgh Steelers, if they beat Baltimore this week, they could be a team [in the playoffs] that could go in there and at least go toe-to-toe from an offensive perspective with them. But right now, they are a full complement team. Their special teams played a much better role yesterday than it did against the Baltimore Ravens. Their defense, obviously, was good. They ran the ball effectively. And they didn't have to rely on Tom Brady throwing for 350 yards and four touchdowns."
The Steelers (9-5) can clinch the AFC North with a win next week.
