Esiason: Patriots Best Team In NFL
BOSTON (CBS) - 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich had on CBS Sports football analyst and WFAN radio host Boomer Esiason Monday morning for their weekly chat breaking down the NFL, starting with the Patriots.
The Patriots clinched the AFC East after sinking the Dolphins 41-13 Sunday afternoon at Gillette, and can clinch a first round bye with a win next week at New York.
"Another shutout for the Patriots in the second half. This defense just keeps getting better and better every week. I'm telling you, right now they're the best team in the NFL from top to bottom," Boomer said of the 11-3 AFC-leading Patriots.
"From the secondary to the quarterback, to the wide receivers, running backs, and of course the unheralded group of linebackers that just keep making play after play after play."
The question for the Patriots heading into this season was the defense, and if Darrelle Revis coupled with Brandon Browner, a healthy Vince Wilfork, Devin McCourty and the other high draft picks could finally put this team over the top.
For Esiason, that question has been answered.
"When you think about the way this defense has played the last three games in the second half -- three points to Aaron Rodgers, no points to Philip Rivers, no points to the Dolphins -- it's pretty impressive stuff."
Stretching that back even further, in the past four games the Patriots have allowed a total of six points in the second half.
