Entire Block Evacuated After Fire Destroys Fall River Homes

BOSTON (CBS) – Firefighters battled a blaze that engulfed multiple homes in Fall River late Friday afternoon.

At least one triple-decker home on Hood Street was completely destroyed. Another lost its roof.

The close proximity of the homes along with high winds helped spread the fire. Fall River Deputy Fire Chief John Lynch says the entire block was evacuated due to the windy conditions.

Lynch says if it was not for the quick work of the fire crews, the other buildings would have collapsed as well.

An estimated 15-20 people are now without a home. The cause of the fire is unknown.
