Emerson Students Alter Boston Strong Shirts For Red Sox Win
BOSTON (CBS) - The Emerson College students who created the "Boston Strong" t-shirt line have created a limited edition t-shirt in honor of the Red Sox World Series win.
These new shirts feature the iconic Boston Strong design in red, white, and navy blue, inspired by the Red Sox uniforms. The back reads "2013 World Champions."
So far, more than 8,000 shirts have been sold.
The shirts, up for sale through printing company "Ink To The People's" website, cost $25 and all proceeds of the sales will be donated to the One Fund Boston. The limited edition shirt is available through November 10.
"The spirit of Boston Strong was truly embraced by the Red Sox and inspired us to make the new shirt," said campaign Executive Director and Emerson alumnus Lane Brenner. "They embody all the things our city is: resilient, loyal, tough, unified, and strong."
The shirt is part of the students' continuing efforts to raise money for the One Fund Boston, benefiting the victims of the Boston Marathon attack. Their non-profit campaign has sold over 61,000 t-shirts and raised more than $925,000.
Co-founders Chris Dobens and Nicholas Reynolds created the "Boston Strong" campaign after being placed on lock-down in their residence hall on April 15.
"Everyone in Red Sox Nation wants something to commemorate this World Series title. We're providing an option that gives back to the community," said Reynolds. The message is resonating with many Sox fans, who have already donated over $8,000 for the limited edition tees.
The Boston Strong team intends to continue selling their original blue and gold shirt through the 2014 Boston Marathon. By then, they hope to see their shirts lining the streets from Hopkinton to Copley Square.
