EMD Serono Opens New $65M R&D Facility
BILLERICA (CBS) - EMD Serono has officially opened the company's research center in Billerica, creating about 100 new jobs.
The $65 million center will focus on research and development of advance treatments for cancer, neurodegenerative diseases and infertility.
EMD Serono President and CEO Fereydoun Firouz said this is an expansion of the company's presence in Massachusetts. The Billerica site is the company's only R&D center in the United States, joining other Serono research facilities in Germany, Switzerland and China.
Firouz says he wanted to locate the facility in Massachusetts to attract the best scientists to "develop therapies that provide value and breakthrough solutions for people living with serious medical conditions."
