Ellsbury 'Tentatively' Scheduled To Return To Red Sox On Friday
BOSTON (CBS) -- With the Red Sox tied for last place at the All-Star break, the one shred of hope for the team to make the playoffs rests in the return of several key injured players. The beginning of that process is set to begin immediately.
Jacoby Ellsbury, out of the lineup since April 13 with an injured shoulder, is "tentatively" scheduled to return to the Red Sox on Friday night in Tampa, according to WBZ-TV's Dan Roche.
After finishing second in MVP voting last season with a .321 average, 32 homers, 105 RBIs and a .928 OPS, Ellsbury got off to a bit of a slow start in his seven games this year. He's 5-for-26 on the season, good enough for a .192 average, though his four walks bring his on-base percentage to .300
In eight rehab games in the past weeks, Ellsbury went 5-for-27 with two doubles and a home run for the Gulf Coast League Red Sox, Double-A Portland Sea Dogs and Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox.
