On Wedding Anniversary, Elizabeth Warren Recalls Proposing To Husband
BOSTON (CBS) – On her 36th wedding anniversary, Sen. Elizabeth Warren reflected on the day she proposed to her husband after watching him at work inside his classroom.
Warren shared her fond memories of the day that she admits "made no sense at all" in a Facebook post on Tuesday.
The senator from Massachusetts said she watched her husband Bruce teach in his Connecticut classroom for the first time, and after the students left the room he asked Warren what she thought.
"What can I say? Will you marry me?" Warren, who was a teacher in Houston at the time, recalls responding.
Warren posted that Bruce "jumped in with both feet" in accepting the proposal, which she said didn't make sense since they were living in different states and had a complicated family life with two children and relatives popping in and out frequently.
"Bruce had lived with none of the above — children, seniors, station wagons or dogs — but he never hesitated," she wrote.
The post included an undated photo of the couple.
"We got married 36 years ago today. It made no sense at all, but maybe that's how love works. All I know is that I'm sure glad I asked — and sure glad he said yes."
