Keller @ Large: Massachusetts Needs Warren More Than Clinton Does
BOSTON (CBS) - She hasn't copped to it publicly, but reports out of Washington are that our very own Sen. Elizabeth Warren has "signaled interest" in being chosen as Hillary Clinton's running mate.
Senator, channel the late Nancy Reagan please, and just say NO!
For starters, Warren herself has reportedly raised excellent objections to the idea.
She is said to be unsure whether such a ticket would give Clinton the best shot at beating Donald Trump, and it almost surely would not. The Democrats don't need any help carrying Massachusetts, and there's more than enough sexism still out there to make a two-woman ticket problematic.
Warren is also reportedly concerned about her ability as vice-president to advance her agenda when it conflicts with Clinton's, as well she might be. Vice presidents are supposed to stand there, shut up and be totally supportive.
That doesn't sound like Warren's M-O.
Plus, no less than former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, a major Clinton booster, noted the other day that Warren has "no experience in foreign affairs and [is] not in any way, shape or form ready to be commander-in-chief."
No offense meant, just fact.
But here's another good reason why Warren shouldn't do it.
She is our senior senator. We need her to carry our water on Capitol Hill, now more than ever.
And we're sick and tired of Massachusetts pols disregarding that need in order to feed their Potomac fever.
