Elderly Woman Killed, Sister Critically Hurt In Worcester House Fire
WORCESTER (CBS) – A 96-year-old woman was killed and her sister was critically injured in an early morning fire in Worcester Wednesday.
Firefighters were called to a home on Uxbridge Street around 3 a.m. and they were told two elderly women were still inside.
"It was totally engulfed," neighbor Scott Nelson told WBZ-TV.
The women were pulled out of the house and rushed to UMass Memorial Medical Center.
Rosie Jordan died on the way to the hospital. Her 84-year-old sister, Eleanor Rinaldo, is in critical condition.
"Such nice women, it's just unbelievable," said Barbie Hogan, a home health aide. "Two sisters. . . I don't know what one's going to do without the other."
Rinaldo's 48-year-old son also lived with the women, but he was able to get out of the home before firefighters arrived.
"The fire did skip over to the building to the left of the original fire building but that was brought under control very quickly," Sullivan told WBZ.
One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion.
There's no word yet on how the fire started.
